THE GAA TODAY kicked off a thousand bar-stool arguments, by opening up its new Hall of Fame at the Croke Park museum.
First in the door where Limerick hurling legend Eamon Cregan and Offaly football great Tony McTague.
“Former players have a special place in the history of the GAA and nowhere is this captured better than in the GAA Museum where their achievements are highlighted and revered,” said GAA chief, Liam O’Neill.
“This new facility will serve as a permanent reminder to the greatness of the players who adorned our game at the highest level. It is important that these players are remembered not only by those who were lucky enough to see them, but crucially by those who did not have that privilege.
“This is one way of assisting in that process and I congratulate them and their families,” he added.

The football and hurling Teams of the Millennium were also waved past the velvet rope and into the Hall of Fame. So how will the process work from now on?
“A sub committee consisting of Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Liam Ó Néill, Iar-Uachtarán Criostóir Ó’Cuana, Nickey Brennan and journalists Seán Moran and Martin Breheny were involved in the selection process. They will select a football and hurling inductee to the GAA Museum Hall of Fame on an annual basis,” we’re told.
