A clubmate of Kerry's James O'Donoghue and Brian Kelly is bound for the AFL

Padraig Lucey is to join Geelong.

KERRY MAN PADRAIG Lucey is set to join AFL side Geelong as an international rookie.

Lucey is a member of the Killarney Legion club and a clubmate of James O’Donoghue and Brian Kelly who are both set to start for Kerry in next Sunday’s All-Ireland senior final.

Jonathan Lyne, who came on to kick 0-2 against Mayo in last month’s All-Ireland semi-final replay, is also a member of that club. Last July, Lucey lined out at midfield along with those three inter-county players as Legion caused a major shock by defeating reigning champions Dr Crokes in the Kerry SFC.

21 year-old Lucey has previously played for St Brendan’s (Killarney) in the 2010 Hogan Cup final when they lost to St Colman’s (Newry) at Croke Park. He has also been part of UCC Sigerson Cup panels in recent seasons.

In February 2013, Lucey attended an AFL International combine in Dublin that was organised by Tadhg Kennelly and he also played for the European Legion against the AIS earlier this year.

In recent weeks, Lucey has been appearing on the reality TV series ‘The Recruit’ on Australian TV channel Fox 8. The show focused on emerging players hoping to break into the AFL and Lucey was cut from the show last week.
