REFEREE TOMAS CONNOLLY was at the centre of late controversy when he gifted St Pat’s their match-winning penalty against Drogheda United yesterday.

With the game level at 1-1 in stoppage time, Connolly pointed to the spot for a handball in the Drogheda box — but the replays show that the hand belonged to Pat’s striker Christy Fagan rather than Drogs defender Alan Byrne.

When the protests eventually subsided, Killian Brennan stepped up to score past Gabriel Sava and take all three points for the Saints.
