IRISH SCRUM-HALF Paul Rowley got his second start of the Premiership season for struggling London Welsh last weekend, and topped it off with his first try in the English league.
The former Munster man has now been nominated for the Try of the Week for round 12 of the Premiership, although he faces stiff competition from the likes of Northampton’s Stephen Myler and Exeter’s Jack Nowell.

The deadline for voting is midnight tonight, and the Limerick native revealed that he has been getting plenty of support from family and friends back in Ireland.
“My Nan actually sent me a screen shot of the website and everyone at home has been voting,” Rowley told the London Welsh website. “It will be down to my Nan if I win it; I’m sure she’s setting up fake email accounts trying to get the votes up!”
Rowley came through Munster’s academy system, before joining Plymouth in the English Championship in 2011, spending three seasons at the club. Last summer, he was among the many new signings at London Welsh, being joined by compatriots Shane Cahill and James Sandford.
The scrum-half has had to bide his time in terms of first-team starts, but his patience looks like it is beginning to pay off now. Learning from former All Black Piri Weepu, now playing at 10 for Welsh, has been of great benefit.
“I obviously knew the calibre of the lads that were there, but I just tried to keep training away, trying to improve and concentrating on my own game,” said Rowley. “And there’s so much you can learn from someone like Piri who’s played in a World Cup final and 71 times for the All Blacks.”
