Hutton appointed first team manager in place of Roddy Collins at Derry City

The former centre back made over 600 appearances for the Candystripes during his playing career.

DERRY CITY HAVE announced that Peter Hutton has accepted the position of first team manager until the end of the season.

Last weekend saw Roddy Collins vacate the position by mutual consent, following a 1-0 defeat at home to Shamrock Rovers on Friday evening. The 52-year-old Dubliner had only been in charge at the Brandywell since last November.

Hutton was immediately installed as caretaker manager following the departure of Collins, and has now accepted the role until the end of the current campaign at least. With Derry currently sitting seventh in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division, the 41-year-old has much work ahead of him.

A former centre back, Hutton made over 600 appearances for the Candystripes during his playing career, meaning he has a strong understanding of the club and Ireland’s domestic game.

Derry’s board has urged fans to ”get behind Peter and his assistant Marty McCann in the coming weeks and months” as they look to lift the club up the table.
