Poll: Was Jim McGuinness right to axe All-Star Cassidy over book comments?

Is this a manager over-reacting or a player getting the punishment he deserves?

LAST NIGHT, DONEGAL’S senior football manager Jim McGuinness cut All-Star Kevin Cassidy from the panel.

The wing-back starred in the county’s Ulster SFC win last summer and their subsequent run to the All-Ireland semi-finals.

In fact, Cassidy kicked the sensational late-in-extra-time point that beat Kildare in the last eight showdown at Croke Park.

So why is he off the county’s panel? Cassidy spoke to Fermanagh-based journalist Declan Bogue for his book ‘This Is Our Year’, in which he reveals some specifics of McGuinness’s training regime as well as tactics used by the team.

The Gweedore man is also critical of the previous management regime and says the squad decided to ‘get nasty’ with players verbally on the pitch.

Some will think this decision an over-reaction by the manager? Others will, no doubt, argue that Cassidy breached the trust needed within a dressingroom and can have no complaints. What do you think?

Was Jim McGuinness right to cut Cassidy from the panel?
