SOME GAA MANAGERS are threatening to refuse to give interviews to RTÉ over its perceived poor treatment of radio correspondent Brian Carthy.

GAA bosses are unhappy that Carthy, currently RTÉ’s chief Gaelic games correspondent, has been snubbed for the chief commentator role many assumed he would get when the legendary Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh retired.

Instead, Carthy has been largely sidelined with the national broadcaster calling on Marty Morrissey and even main TV commentator Ger Canning for its radio coverage.

In response a number of All-Ireland championship winning managers including Brian Cody, Conor Counihan, Keiran McGeeney and principally Tyrone boss Mickey Harte sent a letter to RTÉ indicating that they may not co-operate with the state broadcaster in future over its treatment of Carthy.

RTÉ insists that Carthy remains a part of their team but that with fewer live Gaelic games to broadcast, commentators had to make do with fewer assignments and they’ve been backed by the GAA president.

So today, we’re asking who is right?  Is RTÉ correct to stand its ground or are some inter-county managers right to take a stand over Carthy’s treatment?
