HENRY SHEFFLIN IS set to return to Kilkenny’s starting line-up this Saturday after nine months out with a cruciate ligament injury, as his side travel to face Wexford tomorrow evening.
Shefflin was injured in his side’s All-Ireland final loss to Tipperary last year and returns, following an eye-catching run-out in which he scored eight points.
Shefflin has enjoyed an illustrious career thus far, winning seven All-Ireland medals, featuring nine times on All-Star team and twice being named Hurler of the Year. He has scored a goal in every championship season since 1999 and will be looking to add to that record this year.
Eddie Brennan and James ‘Cha’ Fitzpatrick are among the names left out of Kilkenny’s starting line-up, with only eight of the players who started last year’s All-Ireland final retaining their places.
Meanwhile, Wexford make two changes to their side, with Paul Roche and Garret Sinnott coming in for Michael Jacob and Eanna Martin.
Elsewhere, Limerick, who play Waterford in Thurles, retain only three of the players that started last year – when several of the county’s players controversially refused to make themselves available for selection.
For Waterford, Darragh Fives, Paudie Mahony and Brian O’Sullivan all make their debuts.
In football, Wexford are unchanged from the side that beat Offaly for their quarter-final against Westmeath tomorrow. The match will be followed by their hurling counterparts game with Kilkenny at Wexford Park.
