The Scottish Open has been curtailed after overnight flooding left parts of the course under water.

THE SCOTTISH OPEN will be cut to 54 holes after torrential rain caused flooding overnight at Castle Stuart.

Play was delayed by the threat of lightning on Thursday, leaving a backlog of players who yet to finish their second rounds. It had been hoped that action could get underway around 7am on Saturday morning but that possibility was ruled out by the deluge.

It has now been revealed that play will not start until 3pm at the earliest on Saturday.

Luke Donald, who only had half of his second round completed, was able to look at the funny side.

“It’s not every day your courtesy car driver gets you stuck in a giant puddle and [you] get towed out by a JCB,” he wrote on Twitter.

Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell and Scots Peter Whiteford and Scott Jamieson led on 11-under-par overnight.
