FORMER CORK HURLING star Setanta Ó hAilpín has been drafted No 79 in this morning’s AFL draft.
And after being delisted by Melbourne outfit Carlton at the end of the last Aussie Rules season, the one time Young Hurler of the Year has been picked up by new franchise, Greater Western Sydney.
The so-called Giants have 11 of the first 14 picks at the draft but also numbers 56, 79, 87, 90, 92, 93, 94, 95 and 96.
Yesterday, Setanta’s new manager indicated that the Na Piarsiagh’s clubman was on a list of his targets – not least because of the Irish support he might draw to the Skoda Stadium.
“He’s a very, very big chance [of achieving success at GWS],” Kevin Sheedy said. “We are hoping that we’ll now get all of the Irish community in Western Sydney to come out and support us next season.”
