The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

The transfer window might be a pane, but it’s about to swing open. We’ll bring you the transfer talk throughout the summer.

THE DAILY MIRROR reports that Real Madrid and Barcelona target Carlos Tevez has been valued at  £100million and will ask for wages reportedly amounting to £250,000 a week.

Perhaps life will no longer be so boring for the Argentinian on these wages.

It’s looking increasingly likely that City will have to find a replacement for the perennially dissatisfied Argentinian and so, will look to do battle with Arsenal for the signature of the £8million-rated Gervinho according to The Daily Mail.

The same paper says that Alex Ferguson has told the Manchester United board to reject Real Madrid’s advances for Javier Hernandez following the 23-year-old’s stunning debut season at Old Trafford. It has also been reported that the Mexican’s current £40,000-a-week wages are to be tripled in order to secure his long-term future at the club.

United also plan to sign Aston Villa winger Ashley Young for £16m.

Meanwhile, the longest running transfer saga – possibly ever – continues, as Barcelona prepare to offer Arsenal a player-plus-cash deal to secure the services of Cesc Fabregas, their perpetually coveted Spanish midfielder, according to The Daily Mirror, while the London club try to limit the damage by keeping hold of Samir Nasri.

Liverpool also appear to busy, with the Merseysiders linked to Roma goalkeeper Doni, and the promising English duo of Jordan Henderson and Phil Jones. Jamie Carragher must be quaking in his boots.

Presumably with the income from selling Henderson and the already-departed Darren Bent, Sunderland will spend the vast majority of their income on Manchester United rejects Darron Gibson, Wes Brown and Danny Welbeck, as well as initiating a move for Fabio Capello outcast Peter Crouch.

Chelsea continue to be linked with Wesley Sneijder, Kaka, and just about every other player who isn’t quite good enough for Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Tottenham, meanwhile, put a halt to their constant flirtation with Scott Parker for a day and are instead linked with Lassana ‘still remarkably similar to Claude Makelele’ Diarra.

On the Irish transfer front (Gibson aside), Shane Long is reportedly attracting the interest of Newcastle and Everton, while ex-player and assistant manager Chris Hughton looks set to team up with Martin Jol at Fulham. Unusually however, there is no new news on messrs Keane, Doyle, Given or McCarthy, amongst the growing contingent of Irish internationals seeking a move away from their clubs.

Finally, Italian World Cup-winner Marco Materazzi plans on making QPR his retirement home next season. They’ll be hoping it works out better than his disastrous Everton move a few seasons back.
