The Morning Score: Monday

Time to seize the week – here’s everything you need to know this Monday morning.

1. #DO-OVER Kilkenny and Galway will have to do it all again after they played out a thrilling 2-13 to 0-19 draw in the All-Ireland SHC final yesterday. Galway’s Joe Canning pointed a pressure free deep into stoppage time to ensure that the decider ended level for the first time since 1959.

The replay has been fixed for 30 September in Croke Park and will be preceded by the replay of the minor hurling final. Tipperary and Dublin drew 2-13 to 1-16 in yesterday’s curtain-raiser.

2. #ALL OVER Against a spectacular backdrop of fireworks, Coldplay and more than a few tears, the curtain came down on London 2012 last night as the Paralympic Games officially closed.

Led by double-gold winning trio Jason Smyth, Michael McKillop and Mark Rohan, the Games were Ireland’s most successful in almost a quarter of century. The team is due to arrive home in Dublin Airport shortly after 8pm this evening.

3. #GLORY RORY Rory McIlroy is in pole position to claim the FedEx Cup’s $10 million top prize after he came out on top of a star-studded leaderboard at the BMW Championship in Crooked Stick, Indiana last night.

With a closing round of five-under-par McIlroy finished on -20, two strokes clear of Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood with Tiger Woods and Robert Garrigus a shot further back. It was McIlroy’s third win in his last four US starts.

4. #SERENA Serena Williams won four straight games in the deciding set to beat Victoria Azarenka to the US Open women’s singles title in Flushing Meadows, NY last night.

In the men’s singles, Scotland’s Andy Murray meets second seed Novak Djokovic. The final begins tonight at 9pm Irish time.

5. #VUELTA Alberto Contador sealed the fifth Grand Tour win of his cycling career as the 2012 Vuelta á Espana came to an end in Madrid. It was a second domestic success for the Spaniard, who last won the Vuelta’s red jersey in 2008.

Ireland’s Nicolas Roche finished 12th overall in the GC.

6. #AIRTRICITY LEAGUE There’s a full programme of games in the Airtricity League Premier Division tonight.

League leaders Sligo Rovers host Dundalk, Drogheda United welcome Derry City to Hunky Dory Park, Cork City play Bray Wanderers and there’s a Dublin derby double-bill with Shelbourne hosting St Pat’s and Shamrock Rovers facing Bohemians.
