As Springfield’s finest celebrate their milestone, we look back at some sporting greats who have appeared alongside them.

THERE AREN’T TOO many TV shows that make it to the 500-episode mark, so we felt it was only right to commemorate The Simpsons’ special milestone this weekend.

(And let’s face it, it’s brilliant television, even if some of the more recent episodes aren’t quite up to the side-splitting standards of the early stuff.)

Because we’re sports nerds, we always get a bit of a buzz when a famous baseball or football player makes an appearance; and we actually get the subtle in-jokes and references for a change.
