The weekly YouTube top 10

Another week – another round up of the best on-line action.

10. This spectacular own goal from Athlonesoccer.com has gone well and truly viral.

As the midlands-based website puts it: “It seems the own goal from the recent Melville match has captured the world’s imagination. The video has been stolen/copied from me on youtube which is extremely annoying however it has become something of a world wide hit. With TV shows sports programmes, newspapers talking about it as far off as New Zealand. Great news.”

We’re famous!

9. Allen Iverson is my super-fave baller of all time. You may know he moved to Besiktas’ basketball club recently, sadly enough. He seems to be enjoying the Turkish experience however.

Like sporting greats like Darius Vassell, he was mobbed at the airport. Then this week he was presented to the crowd at a club football game. It’s not like this in Philly, baby.

8. Sidney Sam scored an absolute screamer for Bayern Leverkusen in their 3-1 Bundesliga win over Kaiserslautern on Sunday this week. It’s positively Gareth Bale-esque, as Richard Keyes might say.

7. I mentioned  this yesterday when it first emerged. Raymond Domenech acting the goat in Thailand ahead of a poker tournament. There’s a joke in there about getting a bad hand or something. Figure it out yourself, I’m exhausted.

6. This dude, Ilya Kovalchuk, has a 17-year, $102 million contract. Devils fans questioned the sanity of such a deal – and may raise a few more queries after this shoot-out attempt last night. Embarrassing.

5. For rugby nerds, this some interesting analysis of where Australia’s scrum is going wrong, on the Telegraph’s website. Or here.

4. Here’s another Turkish football story. Former Premier League stalwart Lucas Neill is horrifically embarrassed by some unbelievable tekkers.

3. Great protest from the Swiss, unusually. Basel fans didn’t take kindly to their kick-off with FC Luzerne being moved to incorporate the Swiss Indorr Tennis Championships on TV. So they did this.

2. The New York Marathon invariably produces wonderful images. (Check out the New York Times’ gallery of 100 faces at the finish). But this time lapse film of the runners is absolute class, I think.

1. The Miami Heat seem to be finding their rhythm at last. Dwyane Wade could’ve finished this himself but set it up for his pal LeBron.

The Heat are currently embroiled in another controversy by the way, because Cleveland fans think the latest Sport Illustrated Kids Magazine cover is a dig at the Cavs. This is good though.
