AS WE COUNT down to Thursday’s tee-off, we look back at some of the great shots that will forever by synonymous with the Masters.
First up: Tiger Woods’ unforgettable chip on the 16th hole in 2005.
1. Tiger led playing partner Chris di Marco by one shot as they headed for the 16th green. Di Marco gave himself an excellent birdie chance but Woods was stuck over here on the fringe.
2. Nasty.
3. Knowing exactly what was at stake he took a long, hard look at his options…
4. … and took a few practice swings as well.
5. With the entire green sloping downwards towards the hole, Woods picked his spot about 25 feet above the cup and landed his chip there. Miles away from the target.
6. Then it bit the slope and started to roll…
7. …and, as the crowd got louder, it kept rolling…
8. It couldn’t, could it?
9. COULD IT?
10. Then followed the most perfect piece of sporting theatre. The ball hung for an eternity on the lip of the hole before finally, impossibly, dropping for a crucial birdie.
The Nike ad execs must love this shot.
11. CBS commentator Verne Lundquist said it best: “Oh wow! In your life, have you seen anything like that?!”
12. After playing one of the greatest shots ever seen, Woods and caddy Steve Williams celebrated with celebrated with one of the worst high-fives ever seen.

What happened next? Di Marco missed his birdie putt and Woods headed down the 17th two up with two to play. The drama wasn’t over yet though and after di Marco forced a playoff with par at the last, Woods needed to hold his nerve in sudden death to win his fourth green jacket.
