Toon return? Newcastle bid to bring back Carroll - reports

The Magpies are believed to want to sign the striker on a season-long loan from Liverpool with a view to a permanent move.

NEWCASTLE UNITED HAVE made an approach to Liverpool to take Andy Carroll back to St James’ Park, British media reported on Sunday.

The 23-year-old England striker left the north-east side to join Premier League rivals Liverpool for a British record £35 million (€44 million) in January last year.

However, he struggled for goals on Merseyside and Newcastle are now reportedly keen to take Carroll back on a season-long loan ahead of a possible permanent switch.

Suggestions of Newcastle interest in Carroll have come admist reports the forward is not not part of new Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the forthcoming season.

Liverpool have already signed Italian international striker Fabio Borini from Roma.
