MUNSTER COACH TONY McGahan believes Ulster have a very good chance of winning the Heineken Cup this year.
McGahan saw his side lose 16-22 to Brian McLaughlin’s team at Thomond Park on Sunday, and was impressed by the visitors’ performance.
“They are an exceptional side and their defence was superb, the way they scrambled, the way they defended. It was a complete package,” he said.
“There is absolutely no doubt they have the capabilities of being a Heineken Cup-winning side.”
McGahan is set to leave Munster at the end of the season to become the new Australia defence coach, and had no complaints after his last Heineken Cup game in charge of the province. He added:
“They have a mature side, an all-round side, and I thought their defence was just outstanding.
“They made the quarter-finals last year and progressed again to make the semi-finals.”
Ulster will now play Edinburgh in the Aviva Stadium in the semi-finals, and face the potential prospect of an all-Irish final against Leinster should they progress.
