Irish hopefuls Maguire and Meadow in danger of missing the cut at season's first Major

Ai Miyazato and Azahara Munoz lead the way on -5.

LEONA MAGUIRE AND Stephanie Meadow are both in danger of missing the cut at the ANA Inspiration, the first Major of the LPGA season.

Top amateur Maguire had four bogeys and just a single birdie as she struggled to three-over-par at Rancho Mirage in California on Thursday.

Antrim’s Meadow is a further shot back after she had back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17 to finish on +4.

“Lots of positives from today even (though) score didn’t show it,” she tweeted afterwards.

With the cut projected at +1, both look like they will need sub-par rounds on Friday to have any chance of making the weekend.

At the top of the leaderboard, Japan’s Ai Miyazato and Azahara Munoz of Spain share the lead on -5.
