Concern for Jason Day after Australian collapses during second round at US Open

The world number ten has been taken to hospital.

JASON DAY, THE world number ten, collapsed on the ninth and final hole of his second round at the US Open before being taken to hospital.

It’s believed the Australian has been suffering from vertigo in recent weeks and appeared to faint as he made his way onto the fairway at Chambers Bay.

He withdrew from a PGA Tour event last month due to severe dizziness.

As he received medical attention, the large galleries following the group, which included current leader Jordan Speith and Justin Rose, fell silent as concern grew for the 27-year-old.

He eventually got back to his feet and despite being unsteady, managed to finish the hole and card a bogey four. Spieth and Rose allowed Day to putt first before he was helped off the course and into a car.

Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, Masters champion Spieth admitted he wasn’t sure what had happened as the players made their way down the steep slope from the ninth tee.

“I just turned around and didn’t think much of it, and he was on the ground,” Spieth said.

“He had a dizzy moment and could barely even walk. We just had to go about our business but had to help clear the scene and the photographers.

“First and foremost, it was good to see him finish the round and get inside to get some rest.”

Day carded an even par round of 70 to stay on two under par heading into the weekend.

It was an eventful round for Day after he holed out on the first for a birdie four.
