Read: Jones suspended by UFC and stripped of his light-heavyweight title
1. Caught driving with a suspended licence
Although the charges were later dropped, Jones was pulled over in Albuquerque in November 2011, with police discovering that he was driving on a suspended licence. It was the third alleged driving incident that involved Jones in as many years. In December 2008 he collided with two parked cars in New York, and just a few weeks later he reportedly hit a car that was attempting to make a left turn. Nobody was injured on either occasion.
2. Charged with DUI after driving into a pole
Two female passengers in his Bentley sustained minor injuries when Jones drove into a pole in New York in May 2012. Jones was arrested and pled guilty to DUI (driving under the influence) charges. He was fined $1,000 and had his licence suspended for six months.
3. Fined for his part in a brawl with Daniel Cormier at a promotional event
After Jones was booked to defend his UFC light-heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier, the pair went head-to-head at a promotional event in Las Vegas in September 2014. A brawl erupted between them in the lobby of the MGM Grand, which led to the bout being one of the most eagerly-anticipated in modern UFC history. However, Jones was fined $50,000 for his part in the exchange. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and claimed that the incident had cost him a six-figure sponsorship deal with Nike.
4. Tested positive for cocaine
In January of this year, it was revealed that Jones had tested positive for cocaine in an out-of-competition drug test taken a month before his UFC 182 victory over Cormier. However, the cocaine metabolite found in his system isn’t on the out-of-competition banned list, so Jones was still allowed to compete. He was fined $25,000 for violating the UFC’s fighter code of conduct and spent one night in a rehabilitation facility.
5. Arrested for suspected involvement in a hit-and-run incident
Jones is alleged to have driven through a red light in Albuquerque last Sunday, causing a three-car collision in which a pregnant woman sustained a broken arm. The suspect fled the scene, leaving behind his car which contained marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Police later issued a warrant for Jones’ arrest and he turned himself in on Monday, before posting bail of $2,500. Facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, Jones was stripped of his light-heavyweight title and suspended indefinitely by the UFC on Tuesday.
