AFTER BOOKMAKERS SUSPENDED betting on Ireland boss Martin O’Neill taking over the reins at Leicester City, it appears increasingly likely that the FAI will have to begin the search for a new manager once again.
O’Neill took over from Giovanni Trapattoni in November 2013 on a two-year deal but hasn’t been able to revive Ireland’s faltering form and fortunes with the Boys in Green now facing an uphill task to qualify for Euro 2016.
At this stage of his career, you would imagine O’Neill would find it difficult to turn down the opportunity to return to manage the Foxes in the Premier League.
But what would his departure mean for Ireland? The FAI have yet to make an official comment as speculation mounts, although The Guardian say the association won’t stand in O’Neill’s way.
O’Neill has taken charge of 13 games and his record currently stands at: won five, drawn four and lost four. His win ratio of 38% is worse only to Liam Tuohy, Eoin Hand and Steve Staunton.
Would you be happy to see O’Neill leave the post after a little over half a campaign in the hot seat?
