A Mayo legend for the Second Captains Great Wall? It’s your comments of the week

Also, one reader does not envy some of the young lads who’ll be turning out to face 53-year-old Stuart Pearce this weekend.

PETER MCKENNA IS a fan of Chelsea target Alexandre Pato and Championship Manager.

Alexandre Pato was ridiculous in Championship Manager in 2006. Hopefully he can rediscover the form that led to him scoring 38 goals on the path to lifting the Champions League with Barnsely in the 2018/2019 season.

Declan McCabe compares Phil Jagielka’s recent referee complaints with a memorable Secret Footballer anecdote.

Read a great one in The Secret Footballer about one of the Refs who I can’t remember right now. There was a foul given against the team and the player said to the Ref “Are we in any danger of getting a decision tonight?”, the Ref asked “Have you ever referreed before?”, so the player responded “No. Have you ever played football before?”, and without blinking an eye the ref replied “Once, but not as badly as you”.

A thoughtful comment from Aidan Prior on some of the possible reasons behind Blackrock’s demolition of  Castleknock.

“Congrats to Blackrock. As a former pupil of Castleknock I found out last year that Rock no longer play seasonal friendly games against what’s deemed second tier teams (which in the past they always did and we never got pasted like this), let alone third tier schools (Kilkenny etc).

Blackrock along with other schools have adopted this very arrogant approach in only playing against each other, which I believe causes a further gap between 1st and 2nd tier. The Leinster branch or the IRFU should look at the damaging effect of this policy has on the development of the game in the smaller schools.

“Castleknock are no superpower but they have 7 senior titles (the last one was back in the 70′s) and have produced two current senior internationals in both Toner and Moore.
So of course Rock are going to hammer Knock when it’s a massive step up in level for Knock, and who does this benefit, Blackrock and Blackrock alone. If this had been the case 5 or 10 years back perhaps Toner and Moore would never have never gone on to play for their country.”

Ger was not happy with Belgian international Marouane Fellaini once again featuring in Man United’s starting XI.

Fellani starts again , sweet divine i need a pint!”

Neil Mac Dhonnagáin reckons it’s about time Mayo legend Cora Staunton got a place on the Second Captains Great Wall.

“I think it’s long overdue that she’d have a place on the Second Captains Great Wall. 4 All-Irelands, 10 All Star awards and it’s still the norm for her to score 10+ points in every match at the age of 34.”

Ingo Weinhold thinks there’s a touch of the Emperor’s New Clothes about Pep Guardiola.

“As a lifelong Bayern fan, I will be happy to see the back of Guardiola – Heynckes built the most formidable team in Europe, destined for European domination and the Spaniard ruined it all, be careful what you wish for City/ Utd / Chelsea / Arsenal.”

Gerry Campbell does not envy some of the young lads who’ll be turning out to face 53-year-old Stuart Pearce this weekend.

“He will kill some half cut , buster of a young lad next Sunday morning.”

O Swetenham is amused by the recent hullabaloo surrounding the 1916 commemorations.

“Keep an eye out for the 1916 ‘revolution’ dinner box at Supermacs. A meal worth fighting for.”

Cheap and cheerful but is Aldi’s running and cycling gear any good?>
