Curry, Thompson lead Warriors as Cavs seal play-off spot

The Golden State Warriors improved to 62-6, while LeBron James returned to help the Cleveland Cavaliers book a spot in the post-season.

STEPHEN CURRY AND Klay Thompson inspired the Golden State Warriors to a 130-112 win over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA on Friday.

Reigning MVP Curry provided a number of highlights in his double-double performance, finishing with 31 points and 10 assists the Warriors improved to 62-6 following a seventh consecutive victory.

Thompson top-scored with 39 points for the defending champions, which included 10 successful shots from beyond the arc as he brought up his 1,000th career three.

The Mavericks were led by Dirk Nowitzki’s 24 points. LeBron James returned to the floor as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Orlando Magic 109-103 and secured a play-off spot. James sat out Wednesday’s win over the Mavs but was back in the mix on Friday, scoring 18 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the reigning Eastern Conference champions. Team-mate Kyrie Irving, though, was the pick of the bunch after pouring in 26 points. A mammoth 45-point haul from Victor Oladipo was not enough for the Magic.

Russell Westbrook posted yet another triple-double to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 111-97 victory against the Philadelphia 76ers. Westbrook had 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for his 13th triple-double of the season.

In other results, Damian Lillard inspired the Portland Trail Blazers’ 117-112 win at the New Orleans Pelicans. The Boston Celtics crashed to a fourth successive defeat, beaten 105-91 by the Toronto Raptors. James Harden’s double-double helped the Houston Rockets past the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-111, the Detroit Pistons downed the Sacramento Kings 115-108, while the Phoenix Suns were 95-90 winners over the Los Angeles Lakers.
