CATHAL PENDRED WAS condemned to his second consecutive Ultimate Fighting Championship loss this evening.
The Irish welterweight was defeated by unbeaten Englishman Tom Breese via first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 76 at Dublin’s 3Arena.
On the back of his unanimous-decision loss against John Howard at UFC 189 in July, Pendred’s UFC record now sits at 4-2.
Pendred looked lively in the early stages of this evening’s bout until he was caught with a big left hook that drew a significant amount of blood from his nose.
After that, Breese regularly found a home for his left hand on Pendred’s face courtesy of his impressively crisp striking.
In the clinch, Pendred managed to drive Breese back against the fence but he was unable to secure the takedown.
Breese continued to land strikes and then threw a devastating body kick which proved to be the turning point. The kick left Pendred vulnerable and Breese capitalised with a couple of straight lefts that sent the Dubliner to the mat.
The Birmingham native followed up with ground-and-pound before the referee stopped the bout at the 4:37 mark of the first round.
