IRELAND INTERNATIONAL MIDFIELDER Wes Hoolahan has committed his future to Norwich City, after signing a new two-year contract with the newly-relegated club.
The 34-year-old has been one of the most influential performers for both club and country in recent seasons, but his Norwich future was unclear before today, after several fine displays for Ireland at the European Championships had him linked with a move to several other clubs.
The former Shelbourne man has played 338 times for the Canaries, scoring 45 times since joining from Blackpool in 2008, and has already scored three goals in two pre-season games.
Speaking after Saturday’s pre-season fixutre against Hannover, Norwich manager Neil Adams was full of praise of Hoolahan.
“Wes has always been a special player for us,” he told the club’s official website.
“More often than not, he’s the one I turn to when I need someone to deliver something for me, and he never really lets me down.
“He’s a quality player. We all know his qualities. He’ll be key for us this year.”
Hoolahan has already won three promotions with Norwich, twice from the Championship, and once from League One, with his form over those campaigns earning him a place in the Football League Team of the Decade in 2015.
Norwich start life back in the Championship with a trip to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
