WORLD NUMBER ONE Michael Van Gerwen has been knocked out of the PDC World Darts Championships in stunning fashion by Raymond van Barneveld.
The Dutch pair, both former champions, met in the last-16 at Alexandra Palace this evening and produced an absolute classic — with Barney winning 4-3 after Van Gerwen twice came from behind.
2014 winner Van Gerwen was two darts away from a nine-dart finish and recorded the highest ever losing average (105.78) at the World Championships.

“The world championship means everything to me,” Van Barneveld told Sky Sports.
I’ve been playing well all year. This is amazing. I am so happy, you cannot describe it.”
Barney will face Michael Smith in the quarter-finals while last year’s champion Gary Anderson is also through to the last eight after seeing off Vinvent van der Voort 4-0.
Meanwhile, Adrian Lewis defeated Mensur Suljovic 4-0 this evening.
