GOING INTO YESTERDAY’S footballing action there were a few main plots in European football:
- Could Manchester United get three of the ten points they need to confirm their nineteenth Premier League title?
- Would Lionel Messi reach his total of 50 goals for the season – the first time anyone’s ever done it in Spanish history?
- Could Fernando Torres finally get off the mark for Chelsea?
The answer to all three was yes – which was all the more remarkable when both strikers involved were only on the bench for their respective games.
