Aidan Walsh is set to make his decision shortly.
What To Choose

Aidan Walsh is going to make a big decision on his Cork GAA future this week

The dual playing will reveal whether he’ll play hurling or football for the Rebels next year.

AIDAN WALSH WILL announce later this week whether he will play hurling or football for Cork next year.

Having lived life as a dual player this season, Walsh confirmed earlier this month that he would only feature for one squad in 2015.

The Kanturk man has revealed that he has now made his decision, which he will communicate to respective Cork managers Brian Cuthbert and Jimmy Barry-Murphy in the coming days.

Walsh is keen to put the issue to bed before he heads to Australia in November as part of the Irish International Rules squad, of which he is vice-captain.

“I know what I’m at alright but I haven’t said anything yet. It’ll be another few days before I get it out there I’d say. I’ve to put it to bed now this week I’d say. I said I’d tell the manager first before I’d really say anything.

“(It’s a) very, very hard (decision). I’m very fortunate and lucky to play hurling and football but it’s very hard in the sense that whoever you don’t play with, you’re going to miss out on that. Fellas that you’d know very well and stuff.

“I know for my own sake that I have to pick one because last year I wasn’t happy with the way things turned out and the way things went. I just thought, once I got to the All-Ireland series it was just  crazy, to get the proper preparation like.

“For the All-Ireland semi-final against Tipp, two weeks hurling wasn’t enough. You’re just codding yourself if you think that doing half the training, it’s going to catch up with you eventually.”

Walsh is glad that he got the chance to pursue a dual career.

“If I didn’t do it, I’d probably look back and say ‘why didn’t I try it when I could have?’ There were definitely a lot of highs. I came out with a Munster hurling medal. Cork hadn’t won in eight years.

“To be involved in it was a great day that day down in the Páirc. I gave it the best I could but it just wasn’t enough at the end of it. wWichever one I pick hopefully we can move on next year.”
