Stone reigns supreme at Leopard Creek while Dunne completes solid week

There was no catching Brandon Stone at Leopard Creek as the South African finished seven shots clear.

Today's win was Brandon Stone's second on home soil in 2016.

HOME FAVOURITE BRANDON Stone concluded a stunning four days with a final-round 67 to win the Alfred Dunhill Championship by seven strokes.

The South African finished 22 under for the tournament at Leopard Creek, leaving compatriot Richard Sterne as his nearest rival.

Having started Sunday’s round three shots ahead, Stone maintained his fine form on home soil, with a run of four birdies in five holes after the turn cementing his spot at the top of the leaderboard.

The 23-year-old, who won his first European Tour title in South Africa in January, was even relaxed enough to take the time to do some wildlife watching, as a bathing hippopotamus caught his attention.

Sterne did all he could to apply pressure, matching Stone’s total with a blemish-free scorecard, while Thomas Detry was a further two shots back in third.

Englishman Paul Maddy’s 65 was the lowest score of the day, while David Drysdale –whose 64 on Saturday was the best of the tournament – faded badly with a last-round 73.

A level par final round from Ireland’s Paul Dunne saw the 24-year-old finish in a tie for 28th place on -5, two strokes ahead of Antrim’s Michael Hoey in 37th.
