Arsene Wenger 'not close' to new signings

“You do not find them in the street, strikers who can play for us,” the Arsenal boss says. Where’d he find Chamakh?

ARSENAL MANAGER has conceded he is no closer to adding to his squad in the January transfer window.

A three-year contract extension for Theo Walcott is the only business that has taken place in the Arsenal boardroom. But while there is growing frustration at the lack of transfers under Wenger, the Frenchman said he would not bring in players for the sake of it.

“You do not find them in the street, strikers who can play for us. We have strength in our team. It is difficult in January,” he told reporters. “Realistically, I cannot tell you I will sign anyone tomorrow, or Tuesday, as we are not close to doing it.”

Arsenal barely scraped through against Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup on Saturday with a late deflected Walcott effort seeing them through in a 3-2 win. Wenger’s men sit in sixth in the Premier League, four points adrift of a Champions League spot.
