'It's a bit more nerve-racking but these are the kind of fights that I dream of'
KATIE TAYLOR STEPS back into the ring on Saturday for her seventh professional bout. This time around though, there’s a title at stake.
The Bray native is fighting for her first World title in the paid ranks, challenging Argentina’s Anahin Esther Sanchez (17-2) for the WBA lightweight title, on the undercard of Anthony Joshua v Carlos Takam in Cardiff.
Taylor made her professional debut at the end of November 2016, and has been undefeated since then — winning six straight fights, four by knockout.
She’s well aware that this weekend brings a new challenge.
26-year-old Sanchez is a a two-weight World champion as things stand, her first defence coming against Taylor. It’s a challenge the Irish Olympian is relishing.
“It’s very exciting,” she told Sky Sports in Cardiff Airport earlier today.
“When I first sat down with Eddie (Hearn), we always planned to box for a World title within the space of a year so we’re definitely on track.
“It’s just very exciting. I’m obviously expecting a very, very tough fight and I can’t wait.
She continues: “It’s definitely a bit more intense and a bit more nerve-racking for this fight.
