OLYMPIC STARS PADDY Barnes and John Joe Nevin have been named in Ireland’s European Championship squad.
The two are joined by London team-mates Michael Conlan and Adam Nolan in the 10-man team which travels to Minsk next month.
With Joe Ward and the fit-again Ray Moylette also picked by coach Billy Walsh, Barnes is one of three former European champions who will fly the Irish flag when boxing gets underway on 1 June.
Sean McComb, European U23 champion Jason Quigley, Tommy McCarthy and Con Sheehan are also included in the squad named today.
Ireland depart for their final pre-tournament training camp in Kiev next Thursday, 16 May, before travelling on to Minsk on 28 May.
“We have a very tough training camp ahead of us in Kiev and the squad will be in tip-top shape for Minsk,” Walsh said.
“We’ll be focusing on the best of our performances at the last few European Championships in Minsk and on taking it one fight at a time and on our own performances in each fight and each fight after that.”
