Leinster 'confident' on O'Driscoll fitness

Brian O’Driscoll had an ankle scan today but Leinster expect him to be fit for Saturday’s trip to the Exeter Chiefs.

LEINSTER ARE “CONFIDENT” that Brian O’Driscoll will be fit for their Heineken Cup decider against the Exeter Chiefs.

O’Driscoll played the final 20 minutes of Leinster’s five-try win against Scarlets on Saturday but gave management a scare when he went down in pain after rolling his right ankle.

Coach Jono Gibbes confirmed that O’Driscoll, who is only returning to action following surgery on his left ankle, had a “precautionary scan” today and is expected to be available for selection.

“He’ll be on the field tomorrow so provided he comes through the week’s training, he’ll come in to calculation,” Gibbes said.

Sean O’Brien was a late withdrawal last weekend with illness but is expected to resume full training this week as is fellow back-row Kevin McLaughlin, who is recovering from a shoulder injury.

Richardt Strauss is also expected to be available while there were no further complications for Isa Nacewa who played the full 80 minutes on his return from a forearm injury.

Head coach Joe Schmidt will name his team for the trip to Sandy Park on Friday afternoon.
