WHILE HE HASN’T made it into the 15-a-side set-up just yet, recent Glasgow Warriors signing Carlin Isles was in action for the club last weekend.
The American wing took part in the famous Melrose 7s competition, where he helped the Warriors to trophy success. There was a buzz in the crowd every time the 24-year-old got his hands on the ball, and ‘the fastest man in rugby’ got several opportunities to show off his incredible pace.
Glasgow swept aside the Edinburgh Accies in the final of the world’s oldest competition, with their powerful squad also featuring Fijian international Niko Matawalu and the impressive Scottish 7s specialist Lee Jones.
Despite the Warriors’ clash with Munster in the RaboDirect Pro12 on Saturday, Matawalu was given leave to feature in a tournament that he had long wanted to participate in. As it turned out, Gregor Townsend’s men didn’t need his attacking talent in Thomond Park.
As for Isles, it will be fascinating to see if he is given a chance in Glasgow’s first team before the season is out. His speed is in no doubt.
