Two late points by Enda O’Reilly rescued a draw for Mullahoran in yesterday’s county senior final against Kingscourt Stars. The match ended at 1-8 apiece with the replay set to take place next Sunday afternoon.
Mullahoran lead by 1-4 to 0-3 at the break with Raymond Lynch finding the net before Kingscourt Stars hit back in the second-half. A goal from substitute Ryan McCormack pushed them into a two-point advantage nearing the finish before Mullahoran drew level in an exciting finale.
LONDON SFC
Tir Chonaill Gaels and Kingdom Kerry Gaels will meet in the London SFC final on October 14 after the two sides had very contrasting victories at Ruislip this weekend.
Hotly-tipped to clinch their 14th title, Tir Chonaill Gaels comfortably saw off the challenge of St Kiernans on Saturday, with two goals from Galway native Eoin O’Neill helping the Greenford side to a 2-17 to 0-5 win.
In Sunday’s second semi-final, three injury-time points sent Kingdom Kerry Gaels on their way to a first decider in five years at the expense of Parnells, the beaten finalists of the last two seasons.
Kingdom, who dethroned defending champions Fulham Irish in the quarter-finals, trailed by 0-8 to 0-6 entering added time, but they snatched the win thanks to a brace of points from substitute Michael O’Shea and one from London star Ciaran McCallion.
Kingdom finished the game with 13 men following the late dismissals of Ryan McStravick and Stephen Browne. Their last county final appearance, in 2007, ended in a 1-19 to 0-4 defeat to Sunday week’s opponents Tir Chonaill Gaels.
LONGFORD SFC
Emmet Óg Killoe will face Longford Slashers in this year’s county senior football final after their 2-7 to 1-8 semi-final success against Dromard yesterday evening at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
Francis McGee raised an early green flag for Dromard but that was then cancelled out by Mark Hughes who found the net for Emmet Óg. The winners struck home another goal in the second-half courtesy of Ronan McGoldrick and Seanie McCormack notched the insurance point to clinch the success.
ROSCOMMON SFC
St Brigid’s will play Padraig Pearses in the final of this year’s Shannonside FM county senior football championship on October 14th after both claimed semi-final wins over the weekend. St Brigid’s, who will be aiming for their sixth final victory in eight years, were comprehensive winners by 2-14 to 0-5 against Elphin on Saturday. They lead by 0-10 to 0-4 at the break before Conor McHugh and Senan Kilbride fired home second-half goals to seal their success.
Padraig Pearses, who were defeated in the final in 2005 and 2008, got the better of Roscommon Gaels by 1-8 to 0-9 in their semi-final clash yesterday. The winners enjoyed a 0-6 to 0-3 lead at the break and the crucial score arrived in the second-half when John Whyte found the net for them. They were able to withstand a late fightback from Roscommon Gaels before triumphing.
