ANTRIM GAA
St Gall’s will bid for their 11th county senior football title in 12 years when they face St John’s in the upcoming Antrim county final. St Gall’s, who have won the last five crowns, were triumphant at the semi-final stage by 2-9 to 0-7 against Cargin in Creggan on Saturday evening. The other semi-final took place on Friday night with St John’s victorious by 3-13 to 0-5 against Ahoghill in Casement Park.
FERMANAGH GAA
Tempo Maguires will face Lisnaskea Emmetts in the final of this year’s senior football championship on September 29th after Tempo defeated Erne Gaels by 1-11 to 1-4 in Brewster Park last night. Tempo lead by 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval but kicked on after the interval with Daryl Keenan hitting some quality points and Thomas Campbell bagging a goal.
Erne Gaels hit a late consolation goal from Seamus Ryder but it did not alter the outcome of the game. Tempo will be aiming to lift their first senior football title since 1973 against a Lisnaskea outfit who were last victorious in 1994.
OFFALY GAA
Rhode remain on course for a sixth Offaly senior football crown in nine years after they defeated Ballycumber in their quarter-final tie last Friday evening by 3-10 to 1-8. They will face 2007 champions Tullamore, who got the better of Gracefield in their quarter-final tie on Saturday afternoon by 0-16 to 0-12, at the semi-final stage.
The other semi-final will be contested by reigning champions Edenderry, victors by 2-16 to 1-12 against Erin Rovers in Saturday’s quarter-final, and 2009 champions Clara, 3-13 to 0-7 winners over Ferbane in the last eight on Saturday.
TYRONE GAA
Errigal Ciaran and Carrickmore booked their spots in the semi-finals of this year’s Power NI Tyrone senior football championship with quarter-final victories over the weekend. Errigal Ciaran defeated Omagh St Enda’s 1-10 to 2-4 last evening in Carrickmore.
Conor Clarke raised an early green flag to propel Omagh St Enda’s into a lead yet Errigal Ciaran hit back with an Enda McGinley goal helping them be ahead by 1-8 to 1-2 at the interval. A Hugh Gallagher goal early in the second-half provided Omagh St Enda’s with a boost but Errigal Ciaran held on for victory by three points.
Errigal Ciaran will now face a semi-final tie against Carrickmore, who defeated Coalisland by 1-12 to 1-8 in Pomeroy on Saturday evening. The game, which was a repeat of the 2010 final that Coalisland triumphed in, was evenly balanced at 0-5 apiece at half-time before Plunkett Kane fired an early second-half goal for Coalisland.
But Carrickmore, inspired by Martin Penrose, recovered and substitute Barry Daly hit an injury-time goal to seal a four-point victory. The other semi-final tie will see reigning champions Dromore face Killyclogher.
WESTMEATH GAA
This year’s All-Ireland club finalists Garrycastle will face Maryland in the semi-final of this year’s county SFC next Sunday afternoon in Mullingar. Maryland defeated Castledaly at the quarter-final stage on Saturday by 2-9 to 2-8 and will now face a Garrycastle team who are chasing a fourth successive title.
That game will be part of a double-header with the other semi-final also taking place in Cusack Park between local clubs Mullingar Shamrocks, who last won the title in 2000, and St Loman’s (Mullingar), who last won in 1963.
