CORK GAA CHIEFS have denied reports today that Conor Counihan is set to commit to another twelve months in charge of the county senior football team and insist that no decision has yet been made on who will be at the helm for the 2013 season.
There has been speculation over Counihan’s future in the wake of last month’s All-Ireland semi-final loss to Donegal as to whether he will seek to extend his five-season reign, which began in February 2008.
But suggestions that the 2010 All-Ireland winning manager has made a decision to seek a term of office for another year, and that such information was to be relayed to club delegates at a county board meeting next Tuesday night, have been described as having ‘no basis’ by county board vice-chairman Ger Lane.
“There is no basis for that story,” Lane told TheScore.ie this afternoon. “It’s a matter for the county board to deal with in conjunction with Conor. The reality is that we’re in the process of finalising all our management teams in the near future and Conor’s situation is part of that. But nothing has been decided yet.”
