A BARRY DWYER goal was the difference in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday afternoon as Ballymartle became the first team in the hat for the Cork SHC semi-finals, battling past favourites Na Piarsaigh by 1-17 to 0-17.
Playing into the wind, Anthony McCarthy’s men started the strongest to open up a 0-5 to 0-1 lead but were reeled in by Na Piarsaigh — and by the free-taking skills of John Gardiner in particular — to leave it all square at the break, 0-8 apiece.
Dwyer’s opportunistic finish with just under 10 minutes to play proved to be the decisive score as despite Na Piarsaigh’s best efforts, they couldn’t close the gap.
In the afternoon’s curtain raiser Sarsfields proved to be much too good for Blackrock, winning by 19 points to set up a quarter-final showdown against reigning champions Carrigtwohill.
Bishopstown will face Midleton in the quarter-finals following a six-point win against Douglas in the first of Sunday’s double-header in Páirc Uí Chaoimh while in the afternoon’s second game, CIT were 14-point winners against St Finbarr’s. The students meet Erin’s Own in the last eight.

Waterford SHC
DUNGARVAN WILL FACE Tallow in the Waterford SHC quarter-finals after they booked their place in the last eight with a 0-19 to 0-15 win against Passage on Saturday.
The result sees Dungarvan progress as group one winners with seven points from five games, one ahead of second-placed Ballygunner who finished the round with a 3-22 to 1-11 win against Lismore. For Ballygunner, a mouthwatering quarter-final against old city rivals Mount Sion now awaits, provisionally scheduled for Walsh Park on Sunday 16 September.
Lismore, who had already guaranteed their progress, play De La Salle in the quarter-finals while the remaining tie sees Fouremilewater meet Abbeyside-Ballinacourty this Saturday, 8 September.

Wexford SHC
Reigning champions Oulart-the-Ballagh and 2011′s beaten finalists Rathnure are through to the Wexford SHC semi-finals, the draw for which will be made on Monday evening in Wexford Park.
Without county star Jack Guiney, Rathnure had just enough to see off St Anne’s Rathangan in the first of Saturday’s quarter-finals, 2-21 to 3-15. As expected, Oulart comfortably accounted for Ferns St Aidan’s in the second part of the double-header, winning 1-25 to 0-17.
They’ll be joined in the hat by Faythe Harriers, who beat St Abban’s Adamstown 1-16 to 0-10, and Shelmaliers who ground out a 2-16 to 2-13 win against a fancied St Martin’s on Sunday.
