Cork win Camogie League Division 1 title to end Wexford dominance

Despite a slow start, the Rebels ultimately scuppered their opponents’ bid to win four successive titles.

CORK EARNED A hard-fought 1-09 to 0-08 victory over Wexford in the Camogie League Division 1 final at Semple Stadium today.

It was the first time Cork won the trophy since 2007, preventing Wexford from claiming their fourth successive title in the process.

It was a slow start to the game for the Rebels, who looked out of sorts as they found themselves 0-6 to 0-3 down at half-time.

Nonetheless, in the second half a Katrina Mackey goal prompted a rejuvenated Cork to take control of the game.

They subsequently added to their points tally, with significant contributions from Orla Cotter, Jenny O’Leary and Julia White, while Wexford struggled to unlock their opponents’ defence.

And although late points from Úna Leacy and Ursula Jacob threatened to spark a Wexford comeback, Paudie Murray’s side held firm for the victory.
