Dalglish rules Charlie Adam out for the rest of the season

The Anfield midfielder will miss the Reds’ FA Cup decider with Chelsea and the Olympics.

LIVERPOOL MANAGER Kenny Dalglish has confirmed midfielder Charlie Adam will not feature again this season.

The former Blackpool man has been out since sustaining a knee injury during the Reds’ dramatic 3-2 Premier League defeat to QPR in March. Reports had initially suggested that the Scot would miss the rest of the season, but Dalglish has, until today, refused to be drawn on the matter.

But in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Norwich City at Carrow Road, the 60-year-old admitted Adam would be out for the season, therefore missing May’s FA Cup final clash with Chelsea and casting doubt on his chances of making the Great Britain Olympic squad.

“There is no operation needed but he won’t play this season,” Dalglish said. ”And I would think if they had any designs on having him in the Olympics he wouldn’t be fit for that either.”

As one of the Premier League’s most prominent Scottish players, Adam had been in serious contention for the Team GB squad despite Stuart Pearce rejecting suggestions that he is under pressure to select players from each of Britain’s nations.

The 26-year-old has endured a patchy first season at Anfield, facing criticism over his fitness and performances since his move from Blackpool. He notched two goals in 35 appearances for the Reds prior to his injury and helped secure a Carling Cup final win over Cardiff, despite missing a spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out.
