Moving On

Carter left 'disappointed' by doping allegations but wants to forgive and forget

The All Black great was speaking in Dublin yesterday.

DAN CARTER SAYS he wants to move on from the doping controversy which threatened to cast a shadow over his illustrious career, insisting that his overriding emotion is disappointment and not anger.

The New Zealand great, along with fellow former All Black Joe Rokococo and Argentinian winger Juan Imhoff, were linked to a French Rugby Federation medical investigation after testing positive for corticosteroids following last season’s Top 14 final.

The Racing 92 trio, as well as the club’s medical staff, have been cleared of any wrongdoing and Carter is to take his case to the public prosecutor after confidential medical records were made public by media.

Speaking in Dublin yesterday, the 34-year-old out-half moved to clarify the situation again and said he has already drawn a line under it.

“I think Racing clarified it pretty well,” he said. “It was just a local injection that you do not need a TUE for. Not sure about TUEs because I’ve never had one or needed one so I don’t understand that process.

“It was as simple as that within the WADA [World Anti-Doping Agency] regulations. Unfortunately some details got leaked and a story was made of it. I obviously had done nothing wrong and it has been proven now. Just kind of all moved from all that really.”

Asked if he was still angry at the way the information was leaked and subsequently reported, the three-time World Rugby player of the year said:

“I wouldn’t say angry. I’d say disappointed. The way it came out and the way it was played through the media really. I always knew that I had done nothing wrong and to have your name alongside things like positive and steroids, which was completely inaccurate was disappointing those kind of speculations came out.

“Obviously you’ve got to respect the process to go through. I went through that and everything was cleared. Obviously we knew that would be the case. To be honest I’ve moved on from it all.”

Carter, currently sidelined with a calf injury, says he is still ‘a couple of weeks’ away from a return to action.

SoftCo, the leading provider of finance software formally launched SoftCo10 and announced Dan Carter as its Brand Ambassador.
