Walking away: Ryan steps down as Tipp supremo

The under-fire manager says he has completed his two-year term and will not seek reappointment.

DECLAN RYAN HAS tonight stepped down as Tipperary’s inter-county hurling manager.

The news comes almost a fortnight after the Premier County’s All Ireland semi-final defeat to Kilkenny. A match which saw Ryan come under fire for his tactical approach.

This evening, the statement released by the Tipperary County Board said that Ryan, along with Tommy Dunne and ,selector, Michael Gleeson notified the board that they would be:

“Stepping down as the Tipperary senior hurling management team and do not wish to be considered for re-appointment having completed their 2 year term.”

The announcement was made just moments after Tipperary’s intermediate hurlers claimed the All Ireland at the expense of Kilkenny.

The statement concluded: “A committee led by County Chairman, Sean Nugent, will now commence the search for a new senior hurling management team.”
