PAUL GALVIN WILL have to wait another year before fulfilling his dream of representing DIT in the Sigerson Cup, as the heavily-fancied Dubliners crumbled in their first-round tie against the University of Limerick, losing by 2-9 to 0-13.
Galvin, 31, had declared his intention to represent DIT in the inter-college tournament after he enrolled there to study a three-year fashion course.
However, as reported yesterday, the wing-forward was not fit to take part in this afternoon’s game as he is yet to recover from minor surgery which he had on a hip injury.
A goal from Brian Fox proved decisive in a close encounter between the two sides in Grangegorman as UL ran out winners by two points.
Meanwhile, in this afternoon’s other action, tournament favourites DCU cantered to a 16-point win against St. Mary’s Belfast while their quarter-final opponents, UCC, beat GMIT by 1-10 to 0-09.
That quarter-final pairing of DCU and UCC is a repeat of last year’s final, a game which DCU won by 1-11 to 0-10 last Feburary.

The other big winners from this afternoon’s action were UUJ with no fewer than seven different players on target for the Ulstermen as they racked up a 15-point victory against Cork IT.
