Doyle targets return before the end of the season

Republic of Ireland striker hopes to be fit for Wolves’ penultimate Premier League fixture.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND and Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has revealed that he may be back in action  sooner than expected as he continues his recovery from a medial ligament injury in his left knee.

The 27-year-old was expected to miss the rest of the Premier League strugglers’ season after he picked up the knock during Ireland’s 2-1 win over FYR Macedonia last month.

It was initially feared that Doyle could be out of action until mid-June, ruling him out of the fixture’s reverse in Skopje on June 4 as well as Wolves’ run-in. However, his recuperation has been speedier than anticipated and the striker is now hopeful that he could be back in action in less than three weeks time.

Speaking to Talksport on Saturday afternoon, Doyle said that he has resumed light training and is targeting the club’s penultimate Premier League fixture against Sunderland on May 14 as the most likely date for his return.

“That’s the aim at the moment,” he said.

I’ve had a good week with the physios running and we’re looking at the last two games at the moment. Hopefully that’ll be the case and I can have some impact on the rest of the season.
