Croke Park to host Division 1 football league semi-final double-header next Sunday

The venue has been confirmed for the clashes which see Dublin, Cork, Mayo and Derry in action.

CROKE PARK WILL host next Sunday’s Division 1 football league semi-finals.

It has been confirmed by the GAA this afternoon that headquarters will be the location with Mayo to face Derry at 2pm followed by Cork against Dublin at 4pm.

Mayo defeated Derry yesterday by 2-12 to 1-7 in Castlebar to book their semi-final place but Derry had already secured their berth at the last four stage and fielded a weakened team.

Dublin’s 3-10 to 1-15 success over Tyrone in Omagh yesterday ensured that they will take on Cork in their semi-final tie. Brian Cuthbert’s Cork side were comfortable victors over Kerry by 2-18 to 1-11 yesterday in Tralee and will be hoping to repeat last month’s two-point league win over Dublin in Croke Park.

Armagh’s Padraig Hughes will referee the game between Derry and Mayo while Down’s Ciaran Branagan will be in charge for the meeting of Cork and Dublin.

Dublin are the reigning league champions after defeating Tyrone last year while Cork and Mayo contested the league decider two years ago. Derry last reached a league final in 2009 when they lost to Kerry.

Both games are live on TG4 next Sunday afternoon.
