RESULT: Dublin 0-18 Tyrone 0-17

Welcome to Croke Park as the countdown begins to the 2013 Allianz Division 1 football league final. It’s Dublin in opposition to Tyrone with throw-in at 4pm.

Both Dublin and Tyrone announced starting line-up’s during the week. If there’s any pre-match changes we will let you know but here are the starting fifteens that the respective managers Jim Gavin and Mickey Harte have announced.

Two changes for Dublin with Bryan Cullen in for Jason Whelan in attack while James McCarthy replaces Philly McMahon in defence.

DUBLIN: Stephen Cluxton (Parnells); Kevin O’Brien (Naoimh Mearnog), Jonny Cooper (Na Fianna), Darren Daly (Fingal Ravens); James McCarthy (Ballymun Kickhams), Ger Brennan (St Vincent’s), Jack McCaffrey (Clontarf); Michael Dara Macauley (Ballyboden St Enda’s), Cian O’Sullivan (Kilmacud Crokes); Paul Flynn (Fingallians), Diarmuid Connolly (St Vincent’s), Bryan Cullen (Skerries Harps); Paul Mannion (Kilmacud Crokes), Paddy Andrews (St Brigids), Bernard Brogan (Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruaidh).

There’s three changes in the Tyrone line-up with Justin McMahon, Joe McMahon and Patrick McNeice all coming in for Darren McCurry, Ronan McNamee and Peter Harte.

Here’s some pre match reading for you:

  • Dublin boss Jim Gavin speaks here on his side’s form players Johnny Cooper and Paddy Andrews, why he named Stephen Cluxton as captain and what challenges Tyrone pose to his side.
  • Dublin will need to curb the threat of Tyrone’s danger man Stephen O’Neill today. Here is what manager Jim Gavin and defender Ger Brennan think of the the Red Hands attacker.
  • Speaking of Ger Brennan he will be in opposition to Tyrone’s Mickey Harte today. But the pair have a unique link after being involved in the Eucharistic Congress that was held in Croke Park last year. Read about that here.
  • Niall Morgan has been one of the stars for Tyrone this year. And the new goalkeeper credits Dublin’s Stephen Cluxton and former Scottish soccer net minder Craig Gordon as his inspirational sporting figures.

Both counties are trying to end barren spells without league silverware. Tyrone last lifted the Division 1 crown 10 years ago while it is remarkably 20 years since Dublin last won a league title. Current manager Jim Gavin was part of the Dublin team that won that 1992 final after a replay against Donegal.

The referee for today’s game is Sligo’s Marty Duffy with David Coldrick of Meath and Barry Cassidy of Derry his linesmen. Cork’s James Bermingham is the sideline official.

Both teams are out on the pitch at the moment undergoing their warm-up’s. Here are the substitute lists for today’s game.

DUBLIN: Shane Supple (St Brigid’s), Denis Bastick (Templeogue Synge Street), Tomas Brady (Na Fianna), Shane Carthy (Naomh Mearnóg), Nicky Devereux (Ballinteer St John’s), Philip McMahon (Ballymun Kickhams), Kevin McManamon (St Judes), Kevin Nolan (Kilmacud Crokes), Rory O’Carroll (Kilmacud Crokes), Dean Rock (Ballymun Kickhams), Jason Whelan (Ballymun Kickhams).

Late changes on both sides and the big news is that Stephen O’Neill is out for Tyrone with Conor McAliskey replacing him while Jason Whelan comes into the Dublin attack for Paul Flynn.

The sun is out in Croke Park and the match has started.

Dublin 0-1 Tyrone 0-0: 3 mins – Bernard Brogan knocks over an early free to set Dublin on their way after he was fouled himself by Cathal McCarron. Paddy Andrews has just been booked for Dublin.

Dublin 0-1 Tyrone 0-1: 5 mins – Sean Cavanagh ties the teams up with a point for Tyrone after good work by Mark Donnnelly. Moments previously Dublin had a goal chance but Cian O’Sullivan blazed wide after good approach work by Jim Gavin’s side.

There’s a decent crowd after gathering for this game with the Dublin fans packed into Hill 16. Still all square.

Dublin 0-2 Tyrone 0-1: 10 mins – Second free of the day for Bernard Brogan and second point of the day for the Dublin attacker. Michael Darragh MacAuley was fouled on this occasion.

Dublin 0-4 Tyrone 0-1: 11 mins – Dublin’s lead is quickly extended with a productive phase of play by Diarmuid Connolly as the St Vincent’s man grabs two points in quick succession. Both were converted with his left foot and Dublin are getting a grip on this game.

Dublin 0-4 Tyrone 0-2: 14 mins – Conor McAliskey blasts the ball over the bar for Tyrone after another terrific break by Mark Donnelly who is causing problems for Dublin’s Jack McCaffrey. Slight chance of a goal there but Stephen Cluxton was quick off his line to narrow the angle.

Dublin 0-4 Tyrone 0-3: 16 mins - Mattie Donnelly cuts the gap when he hooks over a point off his left foot for Tyrone.

Dublin 0-4 Tyrone 0-4: 18 mins – First point chance of the game for Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan and he comes upfield to nail a free from around 40 yards out. All square again and Tyrone have fought back after the game was getting away from them slightly.

Dublin 0-7 Tyrone 0-4: 20 mins – Dublin burst clear of Tyrone on the scoreboard again. Firstly Paul Mannion takes a quick free to Bryan Cullen, gets the ball back from him, returns the pass to Cullen and the Skerries Harp player curls over a free. Then Bernard Brogan notches his third free of the game after Diarmuid Connolly was fouled. And Paddy Andrews rounds off their run by fisting over a point.

Dublin 0-7 Tyrone 0-6: 23 mins – Sean Cavanagh fires over a point for Tyrone but nearly managed to hammer home a brilliant goal in that move. He met a low centre from the left wing first-time with a soccer style half volley but the ball flew over the crossbar. Then Martin Penrose tapped over a free after Mark Donnelly was grounded. Back to a one-point game.

Dublin 0-8 Tyrone 0-6: 26 mins – It’s a really tight contest here as grey clouds start to gather over Croke Park. Bernard Brogan notched a free to send Dublin two clear and then Niall Morgan missed a difficult free into the Hill 16 end for Tyrone.

Dublin 0-8 Tyrone 0-7: 28 mins – Sean Cavanagh taps over a close-range free after he was fouled himself. But Dublin will be disappointed to have coughed up possession as they came out of defence on that occasion.

Dublin 0-9 Tyrone 0-7: 31 mins – Dublin edge two points clear but it could have been a greater advantage as Jason Whelan’s close-range piledriver was bravely blocked by Tyrone’s Niall Morgan and then Paul Mannion blasted the rebound over the bar.

Aidan Cassidy comes on for Dermot Carlin for Tyrone in the first change of the game.

Dublin 0-10 Tyrone 0-8: 32 mins – The teams swap points with Tyrone’s long-serving defender Conor Gormley on the mark and then Dublin’s young attacking prospect Paul Mannion skipping clear before pointing.

Dublin 0-10 Tyrone 0-9: 34 mins – Niall Morgan cuts the gap to the minimum when he notches his second point of the game for Tyrone from a free after Sean Cavanagh was fouled. This is a fine open game of football so far.

Dublin 0-10 Tyrone 0-10: 35 mins – An amazing point by Conor McAliskey for Tyrone as he fires over from distance under pressure from Dublin’s Darren Daly. Great strike as the ball curled between the posts at the last moment.

HALF-TIME: Dublin 0-10 Tyrone 0-10: That’s how it stands at the break with the teams level. For the second time today in Croke Park, we’ve reached the midway mark of a game with the sides locked together at 0-10 apiece.

Here’s the scorers from the first-half.

Dublin: Bernard Brogan 0-4 (0-4f), Paul Mannion, Diarmuid Connolly 0-2 each, Bryan Cullen, Paddy Andrews 0-1 each.

We’re back underway for the second-half. Last year’s All-Ireland minor winner Shane Carthy has replaced Jason Whelan for Dublin while Tyrone’s Plunkett Kane comes in for Justin McMahon.

33,134 is the overall attendance today in Croke Park.

Tyrone 0-11 Dublin 0-10: 39 mins – Niall Morgan knocks over his third free of the game to send Tyrone into the lead.

Tyrone 0-11 Dublin 0-11: 41 mins – Paul Mannion curls over a free for Dublin to see the sides back level again.

Two Dublin changes to tell you about. Denis Bastick is on in midfield while Kevin McManamon has been brought into their attack. The two players to make way are Bryan Cullen and Cian O’Sullivan.

Tyrone 0-13 Dublin 0-13: 47 mins – There’s very little between these teams as they continue to trade points. Paul Mannion sidestepped the Tyrone defence wonderfully to point from play off his right, Niall Morgan nailed his fourth free of the game for Tyrone and then Bernard Brogan converted his fifth free of the game for Dublin.

Great chance for Dublin to go ahead but it’s an uncharacteristic miss from a free by Bernard Brogan from a central position.

Tyrone 0-14 Dublin 0-13: 51 mins – Mark Donnelly fists a point at the other end for Tyrone after Martin Penrose sent him clear. Penrose then hoofs a shot wide from the right corner.

Philly McMahon comes on for Dublin to replace Michael Darragh MacAuley.

Dublin nearly sneak in for a goal after Kevin McManamon charges through but superb defending by Cathal McCarron sees him block Bernard Brogan’s drive. The resultant ’45 is missed by Stephen Cluxton. 17 minutes of normal time remaining.

Dublin 0-14 Tyrone 0-14: 58 mins – Very tight stuff now entering the finale as Philly McMahon launches over a great point for Dublin to tie the teams.

Changes on both sides with Bernard Brogan, who’s had a quiet game, coming off for Dublin as Dean Rock is introduced to the action. Kyle Coney is on for Patrick McNeice on the Tyrone team.

Tyrone 0-15 Dublin 0-14: 61 mins – Magnificent point by Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan. The free was around 55 yards out into the Davin End in a central position but it still required a great kick to see the ball sailing over the bar. Morgan duly delivered while Paul Mannion has just seen his free for Dublin drift wide at the other end.

Dublin 0-15 Tyrone 0-15: 64 mins – It’s a tale of the scoring goalkeepers today in Croke Park with Stephen Cluxton just after banging over a free for Dublin. We’re level once more and excitement is building around the stadium.

Tyrone substitution with Ryan McKenna on for Conor Gormley.

Tyrone 0-16 Dublin 0-15: 66 mins – Martin Penrose points a free to send Tyrone back ahead.

Dublin 0-16 Tyrone 0-16: 68 mins – Great point by Dublin sub Dean Rock and we’re level once more.

Dublin 0-17 Tyrone 0-16: 69 mins – Dean Rock on target again and Dublin are ahead!

Dublin 0-18 Tyrone 0-17: 70 mins – Jack McCaffrey and Sean Cavanagh swap points but Dublin still in front.

Darren McCurry replaces Aidan Cassidy in the Tyrone team.

All over and Dublin are league champions!

FULL-TIME: Dublin 0-18 Tyrone 0-17: For the first time in 20 years, Dublin are football league champions after a narrow one-point victory over Tyrone. Great contest here in Croke Park.

Dublin captain Stephen Cluxton is just about to lift the trophy with his opposite number Tyrone’s Niall Morgan having been awarded man-of-the-match. Substitute Dean Rock made a huge contribution for Dublin as well as he kicked two brilliant late points.

That’s all from us in Croke Park, thanks for joining us this afternoon.
