Venueless, sponsorless Irish Open to take place just a week after US Open in 2014

The Irish event has moved forward a week.

THE 2014 IRISH Open will be held just one week after the US Open next year.

Taking place between June 19-22, the event, still without a venue and title sponsor, has swapped places with the BMW International open in Munich.

While the new date clashes with the British Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush and Portstewart, it is a direct qualifying event for the British Open with three qualifying places available.

It should also benefit from the fact it is guaranteed to attract star names like Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, with the change of date actually suiting the former world number one who aims to play more European Tour events in 2014.

The full European Tour schedule announced today features a minimum of 48 tournaments in 26 different countries and will begin next week with the 103rd incarnation of the South African Open and will feature events on all five continents.

The World Tour Championship in Dubai will, once again, end the season as part of a quartet of events which include the BMW Masters and WGC HSBC Champions tournaments in China, as well as the Turkish Airlines Open in Turkey.

Other highlights of the 2014 schedule include a pair of new events in August —  Made in Denmark on August 14-17 and the D+D Real Czech Masters in Prague from August 21-14 — which will be followed by the Italian Open in Torino, the last qualifying event for the 2014 Ryder Cup.
