THERE WAS A lot of discussion after Scottish out-half Finn Russell was cited for tackling his opposite number Dan Biggar in the air at Murrayfield on Sunday with some thinking he deserved a ban and others saying that no further discipline was required.
Russell was handed a two-week suspension for the tackle and the debate around the incident has already reignited.
Former Scotland out-half Gregor Townsend is now the head coach of Glasgow – where Russell plays – and tweeted this unsubtle criticism of the ruling.
Whether or not you agree with the ban, tackling a player in the air has replaced the tip tackle as an offence that badly needs consistency from both referees and the authorities.
Townsend also offered a potential rule change that could deal with this issue.
