CORK GAA CHIEFS have announced a radical administrative shake-up at a board meeting tonight with Frank Murphy set to retain the title of secretary, with primary focus on the redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh, and an administrator set to be appointed to absorb many of Murphy’s current responsibilities.
The process to appoint the new administrator will begin immediately with February 1st 2013 the target date to commence the position. The position will be advertised in the media after a HR manager from Croke Park and Cork board chairman Bob Ryan agreed to implementing that process. The interview panel will feature representatives of Croke Park, the Munster Council and the Cork county board.
It was announced last October that Murphy was to remain in his position as board secretary, which he has filled since 1972, for a further twelve months at the request of the county board executive due to the instrumental role he was playing in the refurbishment of their flagship stadium. It is understood that Murphy’s involvement in the stadium redevelopment has thus been a key reason in the formation of the new arrangement.
Murphy will retain the title of secretary and his role will encompass the following responsibilities:
- Responsibility for stadium re-development.
- Overall responsibility for county board operations including financial, administrative and policy matters.
- Specific responsibility for financial management of the board’s resources including sponsorship.

The new administrator then will have responsibility for:
- Fixture planning.
- Acting as minutes secretary to county executive and county board.
- Day to day responsibility for inter-county teams.
- Responsibility for full-time coaching staff.
- Routine financial matters in conjunction with county treasurer.
- Monitoring of the Cork GAA Strategic Plan.
- Affiliations and insurance.
- Grounds maintenance.
- Liaising with Munster Council, divisional and regional boards, and Rebel Óg.
- IT development in conjunction with county PRO.
