Gennaro Gattuso and Roy Keane are definitely kindred managerial spirits

Gattuso has resigned as Crete coach for the second time.

HE WAS A fiery customer during the days where he ruled the Milan midfield, and Gennaro Gattuso has definitely carried that combative nature into his managerial career.

Having previously been sacked as manager of Sion and Palermo, Gattuso took over as Crete boss in the summer.

Back in October, Gattuso resigned as manager apparently due to money problems at the club but he was persuaded to stay on. As you can see from this press conference, Gattuso didn’t like his commitment questioned by the press (who have we seen that from before?)

‘I want my players to play with balls!’. What’s not to like there?

But now Gattuso has released a statement lambasting the club owners for their poor finances and resigning again – and for good this time.

What is interesting for football fans from this part of the world is that Gattuso – whose wife is from Glasgow – said he wants to take over from Ally McCoist at Rangers once he leaves at the end of the season.

That would be brilliant – then all we need is Roy Keane to replace Ronny Deila at Celtic and we can see the most fascinating managerial duel of all time.

Tell me you don’t see the similarities between Gattuso’s ill-fated time as a coach and Keane’s relatively short spells with Sunderland and Ipswich?
